Beijing is the capital of the PRC, economic, cultural and political center of China. The history of the city began about 3000 years ago. Beijing is a city with rich historical past. In its walls there are many monuments of art and architecture - former imperial parks, ancient temples, and ancient architectural structures. Since 1000 AD, Beijing has played a crucial role in the life of China.
The city is administratively divided into 11 areas: Duchen, Sichen, Chunven, Xuanwu, Chaoyang, Haidian, Shitszchishan, Fentay, Mentaogou, Fanshan, Tundzhou, and the seven counties around the city: Chanpin, Shuyi, Ping, Huairou, Miyun, Yantsin, Dasin. The city planning is very interesting - in a bird's eye view Beijing is a square. The city was built according to ancient teachings, reflecting cosmic order in its form. The streets and the buildings are aligned strictly from North to South and from East to West. If to make a line running through the Imperial Palace from North to South one can see that the city is reflection symmetric.
The most well-known sights of Beijing are Tyananmen Square (downtown, the largest square in the world - 440000 square meters), Forbidden City (the largest palace complex in the world, registered in the List of World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO), the Temple of Heaven, Yunhegun Monastery, Park Beyhay.
